The philosophy of the Lifesaving Development Camp is the development of skills and knowledge through participation. This same philiosphy is applied to all aspects of the camp including camp leaders, trainers, assessors and management team. There are many opportunities for members interested in becoming better lifesaving trainers to develop their skills.
Being a leader on the Lifesaving Development Camp is the first step in transitioning from being a participant to understanding what it means to be part of the staff that run the program. Predominantly camp leaders are drawn from participants of previous years camps but any interested members are welcome to apply. For further information on being a camp leader click HERE.
Camp Trainers and Assessors
All trainers and assessors on the camp are expected to hold the relevant surf life saving qualificiations for training and assessing for any awards they are training or assessing in. A high level of training and assessment experience is generally required to be selected as a trainer on the camp. Trainers with less experience are welcome to apply to be mentored in delivering sections of the program. For further information on being a trainer or assessor at the development camp click on Trainers or Assessors below for more information.

Where available through Life Saving Victoria, these Award Coordinators also hold the relevant SLS Facilitator award. Award Coordinators are responsible for developing the timetable of the camp and ensuring the relevant content is delivered properly during the course, they are also members of the Management Team.
Camp Management Team
The Camp Management Team is the group that governs the running of the camp. This team analyses costs and sets camp fees, decides the camp layout and appoints Camp Leaders, Traininers and Assessors. The Camp Management Team is always on the lookout for new members and invites past camp leaders (including trainers and assesors) who have demonstrated maturity, a sound lifesaving knowledge and a strong commitment to the program to take up roles on the management team.
